Endometriosis is a condition in which the endometrium, the tissue lining the inside of the uterus or womb, is present outside of the uterus. It most commonly occurs in the lower abdomen or pelvis but can appear anywhere in the body. Symptoms include lower abdominal pain, pain with menstrual periods, pain during sex, and difficulty getting pregnant. Some women with endometriosis may experience no symptoms.
Tests to identify endometriosis include a pelvic exam, ultrasound, MRI, and laparoscopy. Treatment options usually include medication or surgery. Your Desert West physician will review your options and help you come to a decision depending on the severity of your symptoms.
