Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in the country. Today, medical science also understands that HPV can cause cervical cancer. The good news is that it can be detected and treated early with regular testing. The team at Desert West Obstetrics & Gynecology wants our patients to understand the importance of testing for the cancer-causing types of HPV along with their annual Pap tests.

An HPV vaccine is also available and is recommended before becoming sexually active. Ask your Desert West doctor or your child’s healthcare provider to see if the vaccine is right for you or your child.

We encourage you to talk to your provider about ways to reduce your risk for cervical cancer.
